hmmm

I like the energy of this piece. You have some good parts that work well together but the mastering is horrible. There is no clarity and it is clipping reeeeally bad. There is little to no use of panning.

I saw you in the "Originality" thread, and I'm curious, did you write your own parts, or are these downloaded samples? If they are yours, this song has some serious potential after a good remixing/mastering. What program(s) are you using?

Peace!
LL

WinTang responds:

Thanks a lot for your review.

I use Impulse Tracker 2.14 for most of my songs. Aside from the obvious Prodigy samples, I put the whole thing together myself with separate samples for bass drum, hi-hat, snares, etc. If you're curious how I did it and happen to have that program, I can send you the original file if you want.

I do have a problem with mastering. I don't exactly know how it works in IT and besides that, I have no clue what would need to be done. I can hear there's no clarity but what causes it is beyond my grasp. Any tips?

10's whaaaa?

What can I say? This shit jams out. All 10's for you mister...and I NEVER give all tens.

Good sound production, fantastic arrangement and very creative and powerful lead. I think the strength of this song, however, is in the bassline. That shit rides. All around--you nailed it. Fucking hell ya

Peace,
LL

DJRunaway responds:

Thanks man :D That's kinda positive ... hehe ;) The bassline was the first thing I made in this song; it's the frame :)

Thanks!

LJC-ized!

Bro this is so kickin man. I don't even know what to say other than I WANT THAT! WHY NOT ME?!

Great sound. You should look into doing music for film. Either way, I do, and I would love for you to make this happen to one of the themes that I'm working on for a student film at FSU. If you're interested respond so and I'll get you a copy of the theme I want LJC-ized. haha.

Peace,
LL

LJCoffee responds:

FSU? - no shit huh - I'm right down in Tampa. I'll send an email also but I'm always willing to try to help out. There's another NG guy up your way - AdmiralConquistador - I think he might go to FSU also not 100% sure though - he's also into video - hell, you might even be in a class or two with him and not even know it...

Student films eh? That's awesome - part of my job is video editing and DVD authoring so it sounds like we have a few things in common.

I'll definitely be talking to you.

F status quo

I was reading your response to the previous review and what really sucks is that is generally how the world listens to music too. Fuckers. oh well..we do it for us.

This is tight. And I'm enjoying the fact that you did what you wanted instead of following the formula. This piece has the "soul" that you were talking about...and maybe it's because you didnt "strictly adhere to the accepted theory". But I think it's because you did what your instinct told you. I'm bookmarking your page.

As far as the song...great ambience, I love the rhythm section- especially the percussive sounds that are delayed and panned so well. Great mixing here.

Personally, I would like to hear even more psychadellic shit, more trippy ambience in the background, but this is tyeet as it is.

Peace,
LL

LJCoffee responds:

Thanks. I'm glad that you found something in it that you liked. I'll get over to your page sometime over the next few days and have a listen to your stuff as well. Are you by any chance using a new or alt account? I see that your account is relatively new and I don't think that we've spoken much yet but it's great to see new people active in the AF. I'll see you around the forums.

another GOLD!

500th Download! HAHA. I finally sent someone gold. That's what I'm talking about...

I've heard this one before, never downloaded it, so I only figured it fair to click the little orange disk.

This isn't my favorite work of yours but it's gold and therefore must be good.

Self AD? Why not? I got a new one called never look back. It aint going gold but it needs and X-review...

Take her easy mayn,
LL

Draze responds:

Haha, thx lol. Yeah sure i'll check out yea stuff, tomorrow though.

Thx 4 reviewin.

Don't fall

I like this track, it is well mastered for the most part (except for a few places where it gets a little busy mainly due to too much saturation in your delay) and it definitely evokes a top-of-a-skyskraper-fight emotion.

I guess the only real problem I have with it (and please don't be offended after leaving me, I have to hold you to higher standards) is that it isn't memorable. It doesn't stick out in my mind over all the other trance tracks that sound so close to it.

Don't get me wrong here, this is a badass song, but it isn't a gold or a platinum.

Trance is hard like that.

Peace,
LL

Redse7en responds:

No I'm not offended at all... I'm actually happy you came forth with your critique. It's the only way I will fix my work. I will always remember critiques like this while I work on my music! I love reviews like this. I do have to work on the delay as well and I know this. This new delay program is much more complex than the last ones I used. Keep your constructive critiques coming cause I love to hear how I can better myself!

Go mac store!

This sounds like it was made in an hour. Did you even use any effects?

Oh well, you actually have some good parts and decent composition so knowing you only gave it an hour, I'll give you some credit.

Next time take 30 seconds to add some more reverb, delay, flangers, etc to give it some presence and depth.

I do like that bongos. Unorthodox, but nice touch. But with bongos, ALWAYS play with the panning. They will sound so much better!

See ya round.

LL

CaptinChu responds:

I, actually did not use effects. Though I would have loved to use track automation, panning, reverb, flangers, delay, ect, the Apple Store doesn't have a chair at the computer that I was working at. Moreso, during production, I HAD TO GO REALLY BADLY!!!!!!!

Even more, I'm not totally sure how to use reverb/delay/flangers/ect. properly in Logic. If you could e-mail me telling me how, that would be awesome!

Thank you for the review!!

Another fine track

I'm giving you all 10's and I would give you an 11 for diversity because by slip of shitty mouse, I gave you a 9 on Diversity on Dragon.

Another fine track. Very interesting. I'm gonna go ahead and take care of that 0.

Another underrated artist who's sound design is unsurpassed is a good friend of mine, AdmiralConquistador. You'd probably like his stuff if you haven't heard it already.

All of us unappreciated bitter people should band together and take over.

Tome89 responds:

I really appreciate your sence of putting justice in my tracks on this portal where people flame without even listening.
I haven't heard AdmiralConquistador yet (you know man, where getting lost in the incredible amount of n00bs). Thanks for "linking"!

I'm currently working on even better ambient tracks, stay tuned.

^^

For this track, it's Lighthouse.

HAHA, I like youre style

I was extremely entertained by your response to that guy's review. Not to mention very entertained by this song. Repetitive, yes. Awesome, yes.

You can tell an electronic musician is advanced by listening closely to his/her sound design and ability to mix and master well. You have all that going on in this one.

Great world-ish/jungle percussion sounds. They complement a happening beat very well.

I really like that lead which I can only described as a laser-gun sounding thing, but I feel like it would sound better with some heavier delay and reverb and set back in the mix. That's just me

Doesn't it suck to be an underrated artist? Some of these people wouldnt know good production value if it stabbed them in the ear.

5/5 Good work

LL

Come by and check out my stuff sometime. Peace

Tome89 responds:

Now this is one great review!

... Laser gun sound lead... I wonder what the hell you mean. The jazzy 1/4, 6/8 and 12/16 filter swell chord sound?
Lot's and lots of bell sounds in this track yes, i love ring modulation!

And yes, it sucks hard to be an underrated artist. And as you said...
This track spent several minutes in an unstable 1st place in the techno list, and if your name isn't DjRunaway or Psybot som mob asshole votes zero without even listening.

Thanks for all the compliments as well!
But I really don't like self advertising (which is unneeded 'cause this reviewer deserves his pageview, yes).

Aphex twin...

is the shit. I don't like your choice of sounds however, it's somewhat videogamish, but that's tight if you were going for that.

By the way, I was listening about your Trancebience2 and I thought of the name "By the way" ???

I got a trance-bience type piece called A Time Will Come [Pt. 1] (Pt.2 is actually trance). You should check it out!

You might also like some of AdmiralConquistador's stuff.

Peace!

LL

Sir-Panda responds:

Well if you listen too the old version, almost all of the instruments are 8-bit sounding, if you want to hear the original version, go on david firth's site fat-pie.com an go to the claymation section, and watch hollow head man. it has the original song in it.
